The Hottest Place on Earth (Probably)(Phnom Penh, Cambodia).

I am writing this blog as Chad, Jack and Anna sleep and as Sam gets ready to do his favorite thing (swim).  These poor tortured creatures are recovering from a day spent strutting around what has to be the hottest place on earth:  Phnom Penh.

Since living in Bangkok, Sam has become one with the water.

We arrived in Phnom Penh last night via air from Bangkok.  It is a quick easy* flight – taking just over an hour.  It was also Anna’s first flight and I am moderately proud of her.  She most certainly did NOT sleep but she didn’t go full out demon baby on me either.  It was pretty apparent that absolutely no one wanted to sit next to us on the plane and I don’t blame them.  Sam lost a police truck under his seat on the descent, Jack had his head crushed by the arm rest at disembarkation, and Anna was restless and fidgety throughout the flight.  Luckily, there were a ton of children on the flight so I think we blended in (who’s baby is that!?!?).  I’ve learned at this point to just grin and bear it – no flight lasts forever.  Once the kids are on the ground they are actually really great travellers.

It is not really helpful when a baby falls asleep before boarding. Not. helpful. at. all.

We spent the first day of our trip visiting the royal palace and central market.  We plan on visiting more historically significant places over the next few days and I hope to go into a little more detail about the history and culture in later blog posts (as I learn more).

For now, just know we made it!

The infamous yak can be spotted throughout SE Asia, not just Thailand.

I always love the wall murals the best.  Intricate, beautiful things.
We lied and told him there was treasure in the scary Buddha cave. He handled the deception well.
With Anna in tow, we have given in to the whole Asia umbrella craze.

Central Market:

I think this guy was actually posing for the photo.

At this point, I became concerned over the possibility (probability) that my entire family might catch food poisoning during this trip.
Anna Summerville, tuk tuk champ.
