We celebrated Easter in Bangkok today. Our last major holiday before heading home to the States. It was also baby Banana’s first Easter!

Thailand’s primary religion is Theravada Buddhism and around 95 percent of the population practice some type of Buddhism. Despite this, Christmas is still a pretty big holiday here…Easter, not so much.
It is pretty difficult to find Easter candy, egg dye or baskets in Bangkok. In the end, I only managed to find some chocolate eggs and some gourmet jelly beans. We did not even try to find an Easter bunny to visit (which probably would have terrified Jack, anyway). While we missed our family and great grandma’s Easter ham – the boys were happy with their candy and new “Easter PJs.”
We also managed to find an Easter brunch/egg hunt at the Gardens of Dinsor Palace. It was our first visit to the Gardens and it was a very nice day.

The Gardens are located between the Thonlor and Ekkamai BTS stops – at the very end of Sukhumvit (soi 59). The grounds were once home to a small palace (Dinsor Palace) built by King Mongkut (Rama 4) in the early 1900s. The gardens have swans, peacocks and small baby rabbits. We sat out in the garden but there is also indoor seating and patio seating. It was a nice, quiet, little place – you could sit and relax in the garden as long as you wanted. The boys ran around looking for eggs while Chad and I drank gin and tonics. Not quite like Easter at home! And, now, its time to head to the pool!
