Chad is in Burma (Myanmar) for the next few weeks. He will be traveling throughout the country. He started his trip in the country’s largest city, Yangon (also known as Rangoon).

Burma is Thailand’s neighbor to the North/West and lies along the bay of Bengal. It is known to have one of the widest income gaps in the world with much of the population living in poverty. As of 2013, according to the Human Development Index (HDI), Myanmar had a low level of human development, ranking 150 out of 187 countries. This helps explain the very large number of Burmese immigrants living in Thailand. The official language is Burmese and the official religion is Theravāda Buddhism.
Chad downloaded a Burmese language app to his phone before leaving in an effort to make it easier to communicate during the trip. We will see how that goes!
I won’t have all of the details of his adventure but I will try to post what I know and the pictures he sends so that our families and friends can follow along. Here are some photos from Yangon and the zoo.
