Chiang Mai: Day 3 (Bicycle Tour).

This morning we slept in, worked out, and generally took it easy to let the boys recover from the train ride and their crazy elephant adventure at Baan Chang yesterday.  Around noon we pulled it together to start our bicycle tour.  The tour was a four hour ride through southern Chiang Mai city.

When we lived in Virginia we would ride our bikes every weekend morning.  When we came to Bangkok we had to leave our bikes at Grandma and Pop Pop’s house.  The look on Sam’s face when he got on the bike said it all–he was so excited!

The bike tour took us along the Ping River, through an old leper colony, then through some rice paddies.  We stopped at a local restaurant for Khaow Soi Gai–a northern thai soup made from coconut milk and chicken.  We then went to a local bakery and tasted the fresh made donuts and waffles.  Our tour guide took us with him to deliver some of the donuts to a local orphanage.  The kids were really sweet and the little girls loved Jack.  We made a couple of short stops along the way at temples and to watch some local fisherman (the last stop was at Sammy’s request–he wanted to see the big fish).
