We have two more “slow” weekends before we take off for Malaysia (if I can get my passport updated in time…otherwise, the boys might have to go without me)! We are enjoying the time off.
This weekend was Halloween so we went to a party at the “Marine House” last night (Friday). The boys also had a party at school. They came home with TONS of goodies and lots of spooky arts and crafts. Sam said it was great. This afternoon (Saturday), we are getting our family photos done (which is my favorite day of the year). Tomorrow (Sunday), Chad and I are running a half marathon down in Bang Na, which is the southern outskirts of Bangkok. I’ve spent the last week resting and icing an injured foot but it seems pretty strong now…so, we will see how it goes!
Every single morning when we wake up begins the same way–
Sam and Jack eat their breakfast…then, immediately: “Oh, mommy, can we go in the pool?!”
Followed by a Jack excitedly yelling “Pool! Pool! Pool! Mommy, pool.”
So, this morning was spent lounging by the pool and splashing in the water. We then strolled down one of the side streets near our house to pick up some soup, chicken skewers and pineapples for lunch. The boys are slowly getting used eating Thai food–which is a great relief. The food in Bangkok is definitely one of the highlights of living here. The street vendors sell everything from fresh fruits/vegetables, to chicken, to pastries. There is always the chance you could get sick from street food. It doesn’t appear that Thailand has health inspectors or public health regulations. Chad and I have been learning the best ways to pick good, quality street food:
- Pick a place that has a lot of people (which means they going through food quickly and it’s not sitting out all day),
- Pick a place where the food is hot or ask them to heat it up,
- Or eat soup! The boiling is bound to kill any lingering germs, right?
The food is absolutely delicious. We could probably live on the soup alone.
