We have been in Bangkok for about three weeks now. So far we have been spending our time in Thailand traveling around Bangkok and the surrounding villages. One of our first trips with the boys was to Damnoen Saduak, a small village approximately two hours South West (100km) of Bangkok in Ratchamburi province. The town is known for it’s Tiger Kingdom (which we did not visit), Elephant Village and floating market. The floating market was in the James Bond Film “The Man with the Golden Gun” after which it became a major attraction for visitors to Bangkok. To get to the village we took the BTS (“sky train”) to Victory Monument from the Phloen Chit stop (the closest stop our apartment). At Victory Monumen there are several shuttle services which take commuters and visitors out of Bangkok. We jumped on one of the minivans bound for Damnoen Saduak and we were on our way.
We arrived at the pier around 11am and immediately jumped onto a “long boat” which would take us into the heart of the market. We spent the morning exploring the many canals. Sammy found and fell in love with a “tuk tuk” you from one of the waterside stalls. We took a quick trip to the elephant village (for free because the Thai guides were so happy to meet an America who spoke Thai). After a very late lunch on the market board walk we walked back to the pier to catch the van back to the city.
